Levelling Project in Shrewsbury

Brief

After experiencing a major flood in her property, this client in Shrewsbury contacted us to fix cracks that had appeared in her concrete underfloor. Our liquid screed Shropshire team were sent to assess and level the property.

Key Considerations

With any cracked concrete underfloor, it is essential to diagnose the severity and remedy the cause of the cracks. It’s also important to diagnose how the cracking is occurring, and if any remedial action can be undertaken to ensure the longevity of the resurfaced floor. If you don’t take these into account, the floor could suffer further damage.

The next consideration was the type of levelling solution to use. The depth needed to refresh the floor was too shallow to necessitate pouring liquid floor screeding. For this situation, there are several compounds like self-levelling concrete or liquid latex, depending on the depth and floor covering.

What We Achieved

Our liquid screed Shropshire team visited the property to assess the cracking and recommend the best floor screeding solution. The cracking was very fine and not indicative of structural issues. The damage to the sub-base was a result of the water ingress from the flood and not from another underlying issue.

Our surveyor calculated that the best solution to treat the cracks and level the floor would be a synthetic latex self-levelling compound. This could be laid very thinly to ensure minimal height changes throughout the property.

We laid the latex compound and our floor screeding team worked to fill all gaps and remove bubbles from the flooring. This will dry quickly and within 24–48 hours, a floor covering can be applied.
