Expert installation is highly recommended if you are unsure about installing an underfloor heating system yourself. It is possible however for DIY installation of an underfloor heating system or working in conjunction with a liquid floor screed company to install and then lay your underfloor heating system. This means that with the correct information or advice – your underfloor heating system can be installed with ease.

The use of liquid floor screed is also ideally suited for your underfloor heating system. This is because of the fact that liquid floor screed will increase the thermal efficiency of your underfloor heating system but also due to the fact that it assists in the ease of installation. You are able to walk on the liquid floor screed within 24-48 hours which allows tradesmen to continue work on the current project as well as other activities being able to continue without having to wait extended periods of time to access the area.

Underfloor Heating Process

What Preparation is Required for Liquid Screed?

“Liquid screed should only be laid on a suitably well-prepared substrate. The screed can either be laid bonded or over a separating polythene layer (usually a 500 gauge.) The separation layer can be either a thermal or acoustic insulation. Edge strips are recommended around the perimeters, hard standing or pipes and joints placed where appropriate. Screed height is established by laser level from a datum and tripods across the floor.”

We can advise and support you when utilising liquid floor screed with your underfloor heating system. If you are unsure about the application of liquid floor screed or the preparation process then it is highly recommended to seek the advice of a professional screeding company.

Before laying tiles or finishes after the installation has taken place – one of the most important tasks is the removal of laitance. As the anhydrite cures, a weak layer of fine particles are deposited on the surface of the screed. Once this layer forms – it’s too weak to support tiles and will slow down the drying time of the screed floor. To remove the laitance from the surface of the screed floor – it should be removed by light abrasion using an appropriate sanding machine. The best time to carry this out is 7 to 14 days after the installation of the screed. Drying the screed will also help the process as it allows moisture to escape. If you require assistance with laitance removal then ensure that you contact us for a Removal / Screed Sanding quote.

Is it Possible to Use Concrete for Increased Depths?

Flowing Concretes or Self-Compacting Concretes (SCC) are an innovation to traditional concrete. These concretes can be installed quickly whilst flowing easily – providing a surface flatness that removes the need for power floating depending on project specification. If you are dealing with increased depths such as depths in excess of 75mm or for areas such as garage floors – we are able to recommend a cement-based liquid floor screed. This cement-based liquid floor screed can be pump applied and laser leveled – ensuring that a precise floor finish is achieved. This is ideally suited for deeper requirements and will allow for screed to be installed and a smooth finish achieved for these areas which is ideally suited for garages and other areas.

It is possible to integrate your underfloor heating system into a variety of different rooms around your home. The use of our cement based liquid floor screed will allow you to install underfloor heating in garages or depths that exceed 75mm. This ensures that you can install your underfloor heating system in any room or area that you require.
