Energy Efficiency in The Workplace

With the cost of energy remaining high, introducing energy efficient improvements in the workplace is essential for saving money in the long term. In this blog, we will explore several solutions that could help increase energy efficiency.

Turn Off the Lights

One of the biggest operational costs in a business comes from lighting. Where possible, encourage the utilisation of natural light during the day and ensure all lights are turned off when a room or building isn’t in use. Lighting sensors in corridors helps ensure lighting is only switched on when that area is in use and turned off soon afterwards.

Switch to a Heat Pump

If your current heat source is over 10 years old, it will be running very inefficiently compared to modern ones. Heat pumps are a heat source that doesn’t rely on oil or gas to produce heat.

Heat pumps are highly efficient, able to produce over 2kWh of heat for every 1kWh of electricity used. Furthermore, as they run on electricity, they can utilise renewable energy produced on the premises.

Several commercial grants for heat pumps are available to businesses, depending on factors such as the local council, the age of the current heat source, and if you own the property in question.

Install Underfloor Heating

Radiators are very inefficient at heating rooms evenly, whereas floor based heating can, in addition to running efficiently at lower temperatures. Underfloor heating can save between 15% to 40% on energy bills, especially if combined with floor insulation.

Heat pumps are highly compatible with underfloor heating. Both floor based heating and heat pumps work efficiently with lower boiler flow temperatures. This results in lower energy consumption, whilst heating a room evenly.

Reduce Heat Loss

Many commercial premises lack insulation and draught proofing in key areas, allowing cold air easier access inside and increasing heating bills. In addition to insulating walls and pipes, floor insulation is an essential method of reducing heat loss.

Where installing a new heat pump or underfloor heating system is not an option, floor insulation covered with a thermally efficient liquid screed solution can reduce energy consumption by an average of 10%.

Why Choose EasyFlow

We have decades of experience installing floor insulation, liquid screed, underfloor heating, and we have recently added heat pump installation to our range of services. Whether you need to reduce heat loss in your floors, or wish to upgrade your heating, we can advise on the best approach.
