How To Avoid Problems With Liquid Screed
Without proper care taken by approved installers, the screed can be installed incorrectly potentially causing various problems such as –
- A poor finish – This is a risk in cases where the screed has been installed at the wrong depths, the screed has not been dappled correctly or the screed is too wet or dry.
- Longer drying times – This occurs when the screed accepted is too wet
- The screed doesn’t cure – Similarly to the last point, this happens when the screed has too much water content and is not able to dry properly at all meaning that a new layer has to be applied.
- Cracking – Cracking occurs when the screed used is too dry.
Avoid Problems
Most problems with liquid screeds are actually caused by improper after-care so to avoid this remember that most liquid screeds should be sanded approximately 14 days after installation, an epoxy primer should be used with a flexible adhesive if anything is bonded to the surface of the screed. If installed over underfloor heating, the screed should be left for 7 days, then the heating should be run through a 21-day commissioning cycle before floor finishes are applied.
