Underfloor Heating & Screed in Ellerdine, Telford

Brief

A domestic client in Ellerdine, Telford, contacted us to provide underfloor heating covered by liquid screed in the ground floor of their property. Our underfloor heating Shropshire team were sent to discuss options with the client and design a bespoke heating system for their home.

Key Considerations

The client’s property had no access to gas mains and the heat source was an oil boiler. While these are compatible with underfloor heating, we would need to check that it was able to provide energy efficient heating. Older oil boilers are less efficient than gas boilers of the same age, and can short-cycle if it is overpowered for the property needs.

The ground floor also had an open-plan area of 70m² for the kitchen, living and dining area. This required the underfloor heating zones to be designed carefully to ensure there weren’t any hot or cold spots across the floor.

What We Achieved

Our underfloor heating Shropshire installers travelled to Telford and inspected the property. They took measurements of where units, cabinets, and showers would be built and looked at the boiler. It was determined that the oil boiler was able to provide energy efficient heating.

Using CAD software, the team designed an energy efficient heating setup for the open-plan area, utility room, and shower room. The pipes were laid over a vapour barrier and liquid screed was poured to a datum point of 53mm and tamped to ensure a void-free covering.
